Darkness says!
(if you read the book you'll understand the poll)
The book of the month is The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter.
Has anyone read it?

I really liked this book and I recommend it because of Showalter's use of mythology and the modern world. It made me think..What if? She used the myths and made them seem so plausible, you may think i'm crazy, but it had me believing for a good minute.
Here's the thing, everyone knows the Pandora myth. She was chosen by the gods to protect the box, eventually known as 'Pandora's Box' and the only thing she had to do was NOT open it. But of course, curiousty got the best of her and she opened it, releasing all the evils and sins into the world, only closing it in time to trap Hope within.
Showalter, however, took the myth and added her own twist, as authors often do. According to her, Pandora was a female warrior for the gods (the greek gods by the way) chosen to protect the box. Yeah, I know, basically the same thing so far. Nuh-uh! There were other warriors, known as the Lords of the Underworld (hence this series being known as the 'Lords of the Underworld Series'). These Lords were protectors of the gods. As a result, they were offended, insulted really, that Pandora..a WOMAN was chosen to safegaurd the box and not them. I mean, they were worthy of enough to protect the gods, but not a measley box??
They decide to prove that they would have been a better choice. Guess how they decide to prove it. By attacking Pandora of course!
These warrior Lords, the first book contains seven: Maddox, Lucien, Reyes, Paris, Torin, Aeron and Baden, attack the unsuspecting Pandora, killing her and releasing the evils of the box in the process. The gods, now infuriated, decided that a fitting punishment would be to infuse the body of each warrior who attacked, with a demon that escaped. Now they would live forever, tormented on a daily basis by the inner evil as well as having to convery whatever damage said demon desired.
Maddox - Lord of Violence
Lucien- Lord of Death
Reyes - Lord of Pain
Torin- Lord of Disease
Paris - Lord of Promiscuiy
Aeron -Lord of Wrath
Baden - Lord of Distrust (deceased)
This first novel of the series, The Darkest Night, is the tale of Maddox, Lord of Violence. He lives with the demon all day and night, and is tortured unless he commits some attack of violence. Although he is making an effort to deter the demon...there is only so much pain a person can take.
The 'heroine' of this novel is Ashlyn Darrow. She had an odd childhood, sad life, due to the fact that whatever room she enters, she is able to hear any conversation ever said there, past or present.
The Lords of the Underworld, after years of traveling, now reside in Budapest. There are rumors about them; they're demons, angels, saviors. No one knows what to believe, but neither are they willing to trek up the mountain to the mansion in order to find out. The one thing everyone does agree on however, is that the people at the top of the mountain do wonders for the surrounding communtiy. There is also a rumor that they are healers with mystical powers. It is this rumor that leads Ashlyn to them. She searchs for them with the hope that they will teach her how to control the voices or rather, quiet them forever.
